The Doubletree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort is a 4-star hotel located on the opposite shore of the resort island of Pangkor. All rooms have private balconies. The resort offers recreational activities such as golf, tennis, and water sports.
Booking
I had booked a room at the DoubleTree Penang for the first time in a long time because I wanted to relax at the resort on my day off. But when I remembered that a new DoubleTree had opened in Perak, I decided to cancel my DoubleTree Penang reservation and go to DoubleTree Damai Laut. The booking rate was RM347, about the same price as Doubletree Penang at that time. Not a bad deal for a new resort.
Check-in
I managed to arrive at the resort after struggling on the bumpy road and mountain road that continues for about 7 kilometers to the resort.
The lobby was airy and had a view of the ocean and Pangkor Island.
I arrived at the hotel around 13:00, but our room was not yet ready, so I was taken to the Axis Lounge to wait with a soft drink and chocolate chip cookie. The room was ready around 14:00, so I was fortunate enough to be allowed an early check-in.
As a Hilton Diamond member, I received various privileges at the resort.
- Lounge Access
- Room Upgrade
- Complimentary Breakfast for Two
- Early check-in/Late check-out
King Guest Room Seaview High Floor
The room had just been refurbished and was 35 sq. meters. It was originally a Swiss-Garden Beach Resort but was rebranded and became DoubleTree Resort in 2022. So the facilities and rooms have been there for a while, but they have been refurbished and all looks new now!
All rooms have a private balcony.
The balcony overlooks the ocean and the playground. There is a lot of nature around, so just being on the balcony is a refreshing.
On the table, a coffee and tea(Dilmah) set were provided.
Bathrooms had just been renovated also and were clean too!
Toothbrushes, grooming kit, shower caps and body cream were provided.
Facility
The resort has plenty of pools for adults and kids to play in and never get bored! I spent most of time relaxing on the beach chairs by the pool, and sometimes went for a swim in the adult pool!
As with other DoubleTree resorts, there is a Kids Club.
There was also a large playground.
Not only is there a playground for kids, but also volleyball and basketball courts, tennis courts in the back, and even a golf course beside resort.
The water is not that clear here, but still you can play water sports such as banana boats and SUP at the resort private beach.
The fitness center has minimal functional machines, and the cardio machines have a Pangkor Island view.
Evening Cocktails at Axis Lounge
The executive lounge is under renovation so we had evening cocktails at the Axis lounge instead.
Beverage options were beer, red wine, white wine, soft drinks, and tea.
The meals were limited due to not being in the executive lounge, but the food was not bad!
Breakfast
Breakfast is served buffet style with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western cuisine at the Makan Kitchen.
The restaurant is spacious and you can dine indoors or outside. From the outside seats, there is a beautiful view of Pangkor Island and the ocean, you may prefer to eat outside if it is a clear day.
