ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Narita is conveniently located 10 minutes from Narita International Airport and 5 minutes from the expressway, and local tourist attractions such as Naritasan Park and Naritasan Shinshoji Temple are not far from the hotel. The hotel also offers free transportation to and from the airport and Narita Station.
Booking
There are many airport hotels near Narita Airport, including the Hilton Narita and Hotel Nikko Narita, but this time we decided to stay at the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel. I booked a standard room with breakfast for ¥16,998. There are also cheaper hotels near the airport, but I was curious to see what kind of privileges I would expect as an IHG Platinum member.
Check-in
There is a free shuttle bus from Narita Station to the hotel. There are also frequent free shuttle buses from the airport, so if you want to get to the hotel early, you may want to access the hotel from the airport. The Free Shuttle Bus timetable is here.
Malaysia Airlines cabin attendants and pilots were also preparing for check-in at the hotel lobby. Our check-in at the reception desk went smoothly, and perks as an IHG Platinum member include
- Complimentary parking
- Room upgrade
- Complimentary gym
- Choice of 600 points or welcome drink
1 King Standard
We were happy to get an upgrade to a room that was 29 square meters in size. If it had been the smallest room, I think it would have been difficult to open a luggage, but I am glad this room had enough space to open a luggage.
You can barely see the airport from the room. By the way, the airport view rooms seem to be worth more than the standard rooms. In my experience, rooms with seaviews, Twin Tower views, etc. are valuable and more expensive than standard rooms, but I didn’t expect airport view rooms to have such value as well.
On the cabinet, coffee and tea(Itoen) set were provided, though nothing special.
But this eye mask is super cool. Although I didn’t try it at the hotel, I did try it on the plane the next day. The warm steam made me relax during the flight!
The bathroom is small and functional with a bathtub and shower in one unit, just like the other business hotel in Japan.
Toothbrushes, sanitary bag, hair brush, vanity kit, shower cap, shaving kit, bath powder and body cream were provided.
Facility
The pool was closed just the day we stayed there, so we could not go inside. The charge for using the course is ¥1,100.
The fitness center was small, but had a full range of functional exercise machines, including Smith machines. However, even hotel guests are charged ¥1,100 to use the gym.
I found out during this trip in Japan that many city hotels charge extra for the use of the pool and gym.
Breakfast
Breakfast was a buffet of Western and Japanese cuisine at the “Ceres” on the ground floor, which opens at 6:00 a.m. Even though it was early in the morning, the place was already crowded with people from that time.
There was a wide variety of bread, but the taste was nothing out of the ordinary.
Free Shuttle Bus
There are many free shuttle buses between the airport and the hotel, so if you are staying at the hotel the night before your flight, it was more convenient to go to the airport and then take the shuttle bus from there. Shuttle buses are also available from Narita Station, but they are less frequent and sometimes stop at the Aeon Mall, so it takes longer.
The buses are large and have plenty of seats, so I don’t think they will be full, but you may want to wait in the hotel lobby early in case there are groups using the shuttle buses.
When I stayed there, the seats were fully occupied by a group taking the shuttle bus to the Aeon Mall.
