【Review】The Edison George Town Penang Malaysia

The Edison George Town, located on Leith Street, known as the Hakka millionaire district, is a European-style mansion reborn as a boutique hotel. Its unique features, including Scottish cast-iron columns, a dragon fountain, and wooden shuttered windows, have been preserved over the years and further refined by The Edison George Town.

As a UNESCO Heritage Site of Georgetown, it has been restored to its former glory while adhering to heritage regulations and now offers 35 modern and tastefully designed rooms in the heart of George Town, Penang.

Booking

The Edison George Town is a member of the SLH group and can be booked through the Hyatt website. However, we do not recommend making reservations through Hyatt because of the high rates. So, when I saw a special offer on Trip.com with an attractive price of RM377 including service charge, I booked it!

The price from Hyatt’s website was RM680, and from the hotel’s official website it was RM550, so you can see how attractive Trip.com’s price was!

Normally, we do not recommend making reservations through OTAs, except when there are special offers like this one.

Check-In

The mansion’s white exterior is sophisticated, with pale green windows.

As soon as I parked my car in the mansion’s parking lot, a friendly hotel staff immediately came to check me in and give me a tour of the hotel.

The hotel has a 24-hour lounge and a wine hour in the evening for wine tasting!

Deluxe Room

The rooms are small (19 square meters) and the bathroom is located next to the bedroom.

There was just water on the table, but tea and coffee are available in the lounge.

Small bathroom with toilet and shower next to each other.

Toothbrushes, shaving kit, vanity kit, shower cap, sanitary bag, body lotion and hair brush are provided.

Facility

A 25-meter pool has been added to the side of the main building. This pool is small but long enough for a good swim.

One of the unique features of The Edison Georgetown is its “lounge” which is open 24 hours a day. This lounge is a common space created for guests to enjoy snacks and beverages (coffee, tea, soft drinks and juices) at any time.

Wine tasting is also served in the lounge from 18:00 to 19:00.

The Edison Georgetown has several common spaces within the mansion. The open-space courtyard in the center of the mansion is a traditional Chinese mansion structure, and the Blue Mansion has the same courtyard.
